The Historic Tabor Home was built by H.A.W. Tabor for his wife, Augusta, in 1877 at 312 Harrison Avenue in Leadville. The home was moved to its present location at 116 E 5th Street in 1879 to make room for the Tabor Opera House.
Though their primary residence was in Denver, Horace and Augusta maintained their Leadville home until 1881 just before scandal ended their marriage.
The Tabor Home is a key historic property in Leadville as it is the most personal surviving link to Horace, Leadville's first mayor.
After several owner changes, the Tabor Home is now owned by the City of Leadville and operates as a museum.
The Tabor Home holds artifacts and nuances that are authentic to either the Tabor family or their time period.
In 2005 the City of Leadville received a grant from the Colorado Historical Society and the State Historical Fund to restore and stabilize the exterior of the Tabor Home. The repair of the once rotting window sills and new paint increased the exterior aesthetic and returned it to its original condition.
